Hi. I'm Stephanie Hart. Nice to meet you. I am not the therapist that will sit quietly and stare at you. My approach to therapy is conversational and action-oriented. I ask questions, we’ll laugh, I’ll push you when you need it, and I’ll sit with you through the hard stuff. Life is not always linear, and I don’t expect therapy to be either. I will meet you where you are, talking about the day-to-day when that feels pressing, delving into the past when you’re up for it, and planning for the future as needed. I will be your biggest cheerleader, but I will also challenge you when you are stuck and encourage you to grow into the person you’d like to become.

About You.

How do you define adulthood in a modern world? No one tells you how to be an adult. Or maybe too many people tell you too many things.  And how do you know when you’ve gotten there?  Does it have to do with independence, money, partnering, career, home ownership, your bat mitzvah, your 18th birthday? The answer to this question is different for everyone.

It’s not surprising you’re feeling lost, confused, anxious, or depressed thinking about adulthood. Our brains continue to develop well into our mid-20s, yet society expects us to have things figured out by then.  I know I definitely didn’t! (In truth I’m still not sure I do!).  In today’s world, people wait much longer to meet the traditional milestones of the generations before us, and then are just expected to know how to navigate everything in the meantime.

This is where I come in.  I can help you find your way through.  And I can do that without any expectations or preconceived notions.  No judgment.  Sometimes you may need to talk about the day-to-day details of your life, and other days you might be ready to zoom out and look at the bigger picture or flip back through the pages of your life to this point.  I will come with you wherever you need to go, and help you find your way back out.

If you are ready to start down this path, feel free to reach out! I am here.

About Me.

WIN_20220923_11_55_51_Pro_edited_edited.

Being a therapist has been a dream of mine since I was 12 (weird dream, I know), but somehow it took me 2 other careers and a few extra degrees before finally becoming a therapist in my 30s.  I tell you this to let you know that I’ve been there too.  I’ve been lost, confused, anxious, messy, directionless, lonely, and depressed.  I’ve also been happy, excited, driven, in love, confident, and pointed in a clear direction.  And sometimes all of those things at the same time.  Life can be messy, in all the best ways. I know mine has been, and I feel like I’m just getting started!

I work with my clients not only through my training, but also through my personal experiences.  No one has lived your life - you are the expert on you - but hopefully some of my life experiences can help give me a deeper understanding of where you are and what you are going through.  I have been in careers that weren’t right for me, dealt with dating and relationships that didn’t work out, lived through my parents’ divorce as a child and all the messiness that comes with it, survived as an adult with ADHD, and suffered through infertility and loss.  And thankfully, I’ve come out the other end to find a place in life that makes me happy and fulfilled more often than not.
